STVR’S & Community Sentiment in Pierpont

Currently the city of Ventura allows for Short Term Rentals (STR)s also called Short Term Vacation Rentals (STVR)s in Pierpont which is zoned as a residential neighborhood. The Pierpont Bay Community Council conducted a survey of the neighborhood sentiment on STRs late 2017. Over 40% of the community participated. The results were that nearly 70% of responders did not want STVRs to operate in Pierpont. This survey was audited to validate the responses.

Based on this survey, the PBCC is positioned against STVRs operating in Pierpont because Pierpont is zoned as a residential neighborhood and STVRs are businesses that even under the best circumstances degrade the quality of life in the neighborhood and displace long term residents.  The impact of their operation disproportionately affects their immediate neighbors.  The PBCC is not against Short Term Rentals as long as they operate outside of residential neighborhoods.

As part of the City of Ventura’ upcoming General Plan update and revised Local Coastal Plan, the PBCC has been a strong advocate for creating a new STVR ordinance.
